A FINE PAIR OF GERMAN FLINTLOCK SPORTING RIFLES with swamped octagonal barrels of rounded triangular bore rifled with alternating broad and narrow grooves and struck on the breech with maker's mark (Neue Støckel 7580), folding leaf back-sights with chiselled foliate finial, flat bevelled locks with stepped tails, moulded figured walnut full stocks with simulated side-plates, the butts each with cheek-piece carved with scrolls and foliage, patch-box covers carved with foliage at one end , bevelled iron mounts with shaped finials including trigger-guards and pointed butt-plates, set triggers (one incomplete), horn fore-end caps, and one original horn-tipped ramrod (the other missing), by Johann Valentin Heibach, early 18th Century
