A FINE AND RARE COMBINED MATCHLOCK AND WHEEL-LOCK GUN with swamped octagonal barrel grooved behind the back-sight, flat lock with double wheel, fluted domed iron wheel-cover and pierced iron spanner retained by a domed fluted nut with built-in ratchet and pricker, the finial inlaid with an engraved brass quratrefoil, chiselled details on the springs, arms, and bridles, baluster safety-catch (spring missing), the cock engraved with an expanded flower (bridle to the cock-spring broken), fruitwood full stock with fluted fore-end, the fish-tail butt with punched, carved and incised decoration, and inlaid with small wooden roundels, two engraved brass monsters acting as washers for the side-nails, moulded iron trigger-guard, brass butt-plate, pierced brass ramrod-pipes (one damaged), engraved brass fore-end cap, and iron-tipped ramrod, circa 1620, perhaps Aachen
