A GERMAN PLUG BAYONET HUNTING-SWORD with straight three-stage single-edged blade etched with scrollwork, a stag and a boar (rubbed), the centre stage fullered at the back, the point back-edged, iron hilt comprising short moulded quillons terminating respectively in a hammer head and screwdriver, downcurved shell-guard decorated with alternate faceted and ribbed bands, and tapering cow-horn grip with a bulbous moulding in a faceted ferrule at the base, and a tubular ferrule at the top, in original leather scabbard with iron locket and chape, the former with frog-stud and side-pocket for the by-knife with single-edged blade back-edged towards the point and struck one face with an cutler's mark, and riveted wooden grip-scales, circa 1780
