A HUNTING SWORD, with unusual broad single-edged hollow-ground blade (light pitting) etched on the back 'Abraham Schaff Fabricant à Solingen', and deeply chequered for half its length towards the point on both faces, the forte blued, etched and gilt with rococo ornament, a bird, a trophy of arms and of musical instruments, and a male bust within a crowned oval, and also decorated with designs of indented circles and a rosette on each face, French brass hilt with pelter-shaped shell cast and chased with the seated figure of Diana protecting a deer, rear quillon with dog's head terminal, knuckle-guard chased with foliage on one side, eagle's head pommel, and chequered ebony grips, with original leather-covered scabbard with brass mounts, the chape chased with a boar, two lockets with suspension rings, the top one with pocket for a by-knife (missing) and chased with a stag, the hilt circa 1820, the blade and scabbard late 18th Century
