A GERMAN 'PAPPENHEIM' RAPIER, with slender tapering blade of flattened diamond section, the recessed ricasso retaining its original green velvet covering, silvered iron hilt (silvering worn) with characteristic symmetrical cup-guard of rings involving two large convex plates pierced with numerous close-set stars and quatrefoils, arms, slender quillons with diagonally recurved fish-tail tips, slender knuckle-guard, widely-fluted fig-shaped pommel, and original wooden grip retaining one Turk's head (wire binding missing), circa 1630
