INDENTD.C.M. London Gazette 3.9.1918 Private Charles Libby, 10th. Bn. D.C.L.I. (Menheniot, Cornwall) "For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in carrying messages under heavy machine-gun fire, on one occasion through a hailstorm of bullets, when the first two runners had been killed under his very eyes. It was this soldier who saw the enemy cavalry coming down the road, and warned the Lewis gun team, thereby causing the enemy's total destruction. Although worn out, and with his feet quite raw, he continued his work, and his staying powers were a wonder to all who came in contact with him. A fine example of pluck to the battalion."

D.C.L.I. Regimental History states that Private Libby was awarded the D.C.M. for conspicuous gallantry at Metz and later at Aveluy between 21 and 25 March, 1918
