INDENTD.F.C. London Gazette 16.1.1945 Flight Lieutenant (Acting), No. 15 Squadron. The recommendation states -- "F/L. Nettleton has completed 46 operational sorties totalling 263.30 hours. Thirty of these sorties were flown in Halifax aircraft on his first tour and the remaining 16 on Lancasters since joining 15 Squadron. Targets he has attacked have included Brunswick, Stuttgart, Saarbrucken and Dortmund. This Officer has served with this Squadron as Gunnery Leader since June 1944. He has organised the Gunnery training with outstanding efficiency and fruits of his work have shown themselves in the successful results from combats between gunners of the Squadron and enemy aircraft. Nine enemy aircraft have been claimed as either destroyed or damaged in the last three months.

F/L. Nettleton is always characterised by a cheerful enthusiasm and his own keenness to participate in operations has been an inspiration to the gunners serving under him."

Squadron Leader Peter Alfred Nettleton, D.F.C., born 30 April 1921, qualified as Sergeant Air Gunner July, 1942; posted to 138 (Special Duties) Squadron, Tempsford March, 1943; as Rear Gunner (Halifaxes) took part in 30 special 'operations as ordered' to Poland, France, Holland, Belgium and Norway conveying agents, pigeons, containers etc, March 1943 -- February 1944; Commissioned Pilot Officer May 1943 and appointed Gunnery Leader in November; Flying Officer May 1944; posted to 15 Squadron June, 1944 -- as Rear Gunner or Mid-Upper-Gunner (Lancasters) took part in day and night bombing operations including Domleger, Le Hay, Le Havre, Neuss (Ruhr), Dortmund, Kleve, Duisberg, Munster and Datteln-Dortmund-Ems Canal (Log Book and Squadron's Record Books); Flight Lieutenant May 1945, Squadron Leader 1960; retired the following year
