INDENTD.F.M. London Gazette 1.3.1945. Flight Sergeant, No. 405 (R.C.A.F.) Squadron, Royal Air Force. The Recommendation states -- "Flight Sergeant Bolland has completed one full tour of operations and is now on his second tour. His successful sorties include such heavily defended enemy areas as Warne Eickel, Dusseldorf and Essen. His determination to make every mission successful combined with his skill and efficiency as a Flight Engineer make him a very valuable crew member. No mission is too difficult for this N.C.O. to undertake and his keeness is an inspiration to the other members of his section" (dated 20.2.1945)
Flight Sergeant George Eric Bolland, D.F.M., aged 19 years; before he was killed in action during a bombing attack on Dortmund 20/21 February, 1945 took part in over 65 operations with 405 Squadron (Lancasters) from June 1944 to February 1945 which included -- Vaires (Paris) Marshalling Yards, Kiel, Sterkrade, Russelsheim, Stettin, Domburg, Duisberg, Hamburg, Walcheren, Cologne, Borchum, Bonn, Nuremburg, Dresden and Chemnitz
