Lot Essay

INDENTSergeant Albert Warren Berry, Air Gunner, No. 50 Squadron (Lancasters) failed to return from a bombing raid on the Skoda works, Pilsen 24 Jan 1943 and was reported missing, presumed killed in action

Sergeant Leonard Stanley Dwan, Wireless Operater, No. 158 Squadron (Halifaxes) took part in operations against Trappes Marshalling Yards; soon after leaving the target area, fierce fighter opposition was encountered, many combats were fought; Lancaster 'E' was attacked by a Ju88 which damaged the bomber and started a number of fires -- the Wireless-Operator (Dwan) was wounded in the leg and baled out in a dazed condition -- the Mid-Upper-Gunner and Flight-Enginer also baled out or fell through a hole in the floor, these landed safely -- the remainder of the crew put out the fires and steered the aircraft home by the stars -- Dwan was never heard of again
