Pilot Officer Joseph Peter Bassett, Pilot, No. 245 Squadron (Typhoons) was detailed to attack a target 30 miles south-east of Dieppe, 10 January 1944; the weather deteriorated and flak was encountered; Bassett's machine was seen to burst into flames and crash, breaking up into several burning pieces -- he was too low to bale out; Bassett was buried in Marissel French National Cemetery, Beauvais
