INDENTLieutenant Colonel Thomas Edmund Palmer Wickham, D.S.O. (1879-1927), entered the Royal Artillery as Second Lieutenant 1898; served in South Africa from 1900 and was present at the Relief of Kimberley, operations at Paardeberg 18-26.2.1900, actions at Poplar Grove, Dreifontein (wounded), Vet and Zand Rivers (Mentioned in Despatches, London Gazette 10.9.1901, D.S.O. London Gazette 27.9.1901); Captain 1906; Major 30.10.1914; served in the Great War in France, Belgium and Italy, (Mentioned in Despatches four times, London Gazette 22.6.1915, 4.1.1917, 18.5.1917 and 14.12.1917; wounded 11.3.1915; Bar to D.S.O. London Gazette 1.1.1918), Lieutenant Colonel 2.10.1918; Lieutenant Colonel Wickham retired 7.11.1925, and died in 1927

During the Great War only 35 officers (including four in the Royal Artillery) received a Bar to a pre-War D.S.O.
