INDENTDr. John Harold Lees O.B.E. (1906-74), worked as a Scientific Officer at the Royal Aircraft Establishment, Farnborough, and was Duty Officer at the Air Ministry when war broke out; the Air Inventions Board, designed a safer multiple finned tailplane for the Halifax bomber, on the design of the "bouncing" bomb for 'Operation Chastise' May 1943; later became involved in Scientific Intelligence, organising the defection of one of Russia's leading aircraft designers, Professor Tokaev; Superintendant of Weapons, Army Operational Research Group, Byfleet, 1956-67, during which time he insisted that Britain had an effective anti-tank guided weapons system, an unusually advanced view at this period; retired 1967 (O.B.E.) and carried out research for Guy's Hospital on himself until his death from a coronary attack in 1974
