INDENTWilliam Henry Edward Smith, born in Sydney, New South Wales, 1866, attested as a Gunner in the Royal Artillery, 1st. Bn. London Division, 1885; Bombardier, 38th Bn. Southern Division, March 1890; posted to China District (Hong Kong) December 1890; Corporal 1891; Sergeant 1892; and Quarter Master Sergeant 1896; re-engaged at Hong Kong and employed with 4th Bn. Hong Kong and Singapore Bn. Royal Garrison Artillery June 1897; was present with 4th. Bn. at the Relief of Pekin August 1900; discharged at Kowloon at own request after eighteen years service, September 1904
