Ottoman, eighteenth century

comprising excercises around particular letters of the Arabic alphabet, manuscript on buff paper, six panels, the obverse of each with a single line of strong black nasta'liq within clouds on hatched and floral ground, the coloured borders with gold flowering vine, gold margin between red, black and blue rules, on plain leaf with gold floral or cloudband decoration, sometimes heightened with pink, the reverse of each with a similar sized panel of calligraphy in nasta'liq, within plain or marbled paper borders
