A SUPERB CINGHALESE SILVER MOUNTED CARVED IVORY CASKET of shallow rectangular form with hinged cover on four turned ivory feet, the top and side panels deeply carved with scrolling flowering vine within narrow flowerhead and roundel borders, the original silver mounts on the cover pierced and filled with floral sprays, linked by repoussé floral bands, similar repoussé bands along each vertical corner, the lock plate also with finely pierced and repoussé floral sprays, the original silver key with head of pierced scrolling arabesques, the long hinges with similar terminals, simple silver loop handles, second half seventeenth century (lock with old restoration, otherwise excellent condition)
