Quarter-plate daguerreotype, card surround, paper-taped, Servants of W. S. Brown, taken 1845 in Bombay by an artist named Pybus in pencil in later hand on verso.

Lot Essay

The India Office Reference Library has a record of a miniature painter by the name of Henry Pybus, Girgaum district painter of Bombay working during the 1840s.
W. S.(Seton) Brown was a partner in a firm called Birley Worthington & Co., and was transferred from India to Shanghai, China in 1850.
