AFTER A DESIGN ATTRIBUTED TO FRANCESCO LADATTE

Each in the form of a vase, with a scalloped rim above a waisted neck, the spirally-fluted body with a pair of dragon-shaped handles hung with foliate festoons, supported by three mermaid putti seated on a shell, on a foliate-cast triform base, fitted for electricity, each with a cream-coloured pleated silk shade

Lot Essay

A closely related ormolu vase, attributed to Francesco Ladatte, with additional masks between the dragons and with floral candle-branches, is in the Palazzo Reale, Turin and illustrated in U. Chierici, Torino, il Palazzo Reale, Turin, 1969, fig. 61. Francesco Ladatte (d. 1787) was appointed court sculptor to Carlo Emanuele III following the establishment of his Turin workshops in 1744
