Lot Essay

In the 1928 catalogue, these six chairs and another similar set of six were devoted a special section in the catalogue and it was stated that 'it is hardly too much to say that these chairs from Pinkie House are one of the finest sets of the period ever seen in the Auction Rooms'. They were very favourably compared with 'the well known set at Hampton Court Palace' and 'though the seats ... are not covered with needlework, the wood is of the most superb rich tone and of greater brilliance that those at Hampton Court'
