Lot Essay

This watercolour was the 1892 design for the Children's Christmas magazine 'Tomten' founded by Emil and Amanda Hammarlund in 1891. In the first edition of the magazine, Nyström had used the colour grey-green due to economies. For this, the second edition, she uses the colour red for the first time. According to an extensive inscription on the reverse by Henrik Wraner dated June 1956, a larger version of the two children at the window is considered to be one of the finest examples of the artist's work
