ROWLANDSON, Thomas. Hungarian & Highland Broad Sword. London: by H. Angelo, 1799

Oblong 2° (310 x 400mm.), coloured aquatint title and 23 hand-coloured plates within ruled and aquatint grey borders by I. Hill after Rowlandson, plates 8 and 9 without imprints, the others dated 1798, and an additional plate bound between nos. 18 and 19 (lacking list of subscribers). Contemporary red straight-grained morocco, sides with gilt borders with outer key-pattern and spiky tool, spine gilt, g.e. Bookplate of the King of Hanover as Duke of Cumberland, contained in velvet-lined crimson buckram box lettered in gilt.

A FINE COPY. The additional plate The Guards of the Highland Broadsword as taught at Mr. H. Angelo's Academy, hand-coloured aquatint by Rowlandson, dated 1799, depicts 10 fencing lessons together with explanations. Tooley 414; Colas 2587
