Oblong 4° (310 x 450mm). Engraved title, 50 hand-coloured engraved costume plates, numbered to fifty, the figures set in lively rustic scenes, wide margins. Early nineteenth century calf backed boards (joints cracked, foot of spine chipped). Provence: front free endpaper inscribed from Sarah Hustler to her mother, 1825.

A fine hand-coloured copy of Pinelli's work, providing an interesting record of Italian life and costume. The plates show a variety of social groups and gatherings including dancing bears, shepherds, festivals, beggars and a magic lantern show.
