Atlas with 44 engraved views and charts, 7 double-page or folding. Uniform contemporary green half morocco, gilt, (corners rubbed), text g.e.

PRESENTATION COPY to Sir James Edward Smith, the botanist, titles and first chart of atlas inscribed 'J.E.Smith, from his friend the author. 1797.' A fine copy the official account of the first British embassy to China in 1792-94, with descriptions of the various places visited en route including Madeira, Tenerife, and St Helena.
