A terrestrial miniature globe, in German, diameter 2 ½ inches (64mm). 12 engraved gores, hand coloured in outline, unvarnished (slightly browned). Metal pinions, the globe set in a square wooden horizon ring, laid with an engraved scale, contained in a plain wooden box, blue painted sides, the top decorated with an engraved hand-coloured vignette of an officer at sea consulting his chart and globe.
Although unsigned, a globe with the same title, diameter 10cm, was published by Peter Bauer in Nuremberg in 1825 cf Schimdt Budapest Exhibition 1989 no. 47. This type of miniature novelty is very much in the Bauer family style.
