COX, J.S. Cox's Terrestrial Globe; Celestial Globe. London, terrestrial dated 2nd edition 1838.
A pair of terrestrial and celestial miniature table globes, diameter 3 inches (75mm), overall height 6 ¼ inches (160mm). Each globe with 12 hand-coloured engraved gores, the terrestrial with polar calottes, showing the track of Biscoe, the celestial with elaborate constellation figures (terrestrial neatly restored, a few minor repairs to celestial). Metal pinions, set in brass half-meridian circles, mounted on turned mahogany columns and trifolium bases, three round metal ball feet, each with 19th Century label of W.Dillon, Douglas, pasted on underside of base.
