These candlesticks are related to a design of 1784 by the fondeur-ciseleur Quentin-Claude Pitoin and is described as Flambeaux de Poing in P. Verlet, Les Bronzes Dorés Français du XVIIIe Siècle, Cahors, 1987, p. 98, fig. 110.

Two closely related pairs were sold anonymously at Sotheby's London, 24 November 1989, lot 141, and 13 December 1991, lot 205
