French Armillary Sphere. Unsigned, late 18th century.
An armillary sphere, pasteboard and card, diameter 15 inches (38cm), overall height 26 ½ inches (67cm). Horizonatal ecliptic circle crossed by solstice and equinox colures, each with engraved stars, the ecliptic circle with outer engraved card band of calendar and zodiac scales. Main axis with central sunball, card planets on brass arms, brass tellurium motion for the earth and moon, geared (lacking several gears). The armillary sphere mounted on a mahogany tripod stand, plain downswept legs.
