Lot Essay

The original model of these wall lights was made for The Petit Trianon, Versailles by Pierre-Phillippe Thomire in 1787. Three further pairs were commissioned that year from Hauré, for the Dining Room at St. Cloud. A similar but smaller pair are in the Wallace Collection.
