It is probable that this gueridon was executed by the Brussels ébéniste Jean-Joseph Chapuis rather that his contemporary Claude Chapuis, who was active in Paris at the end of the 18th and the beginning of the 19th Century. These ébénistes are often confused as they worked in the same style and used virtually the same stamp. The oeuvre of Jean-Joseph was, however, more varied and generally of a larger scale than that of Claude
