Lot Essay

Tsukada Naoaki was a swordsmith and pupil of Shoji Naokatsu, working circa 1860; he is also known as Hata Naokatsu. Yakite-shitate is the heat treatment which gives this tsuba an interesting texture and a feeling of antiquity.
