Lot Essay

Although the tsuba is unsigned, the punch marks at the top and bottom of the nakago-ana, as well as the deep violet-black patina, indicate that this is the work of Kamiyoshi Fukanobu (1798-1851). He was the son of Kamiyoshi Jubei (1766-1820) and father of the celebrated Kamiyoshi Rakuju (1817-1884)
