A scarce example of an early 17th Century Spanish signal gun with an impeccable provenance. It is even possible that this was the gun used by the Maravillas to give the warning to the Concepçion that the two ships had lost their bearings and were in imminent danger of foundering in the Bahamas Channel. The confusion which followed that one signal shot resulted in the wreck of the Maravillas
