A MEISSEN INSCRIBED TURQUOISE-GROUND COFFEE-CUP AND SAUCER, the cup with moulded ear-shaped scroll handle and painted with Minerva in profile to the left wearing a plumed helmet incorporating two portrait busts with the gilt inscription SAPERE · AVDE . the reverse with the gilt inscription SOCIETAS ALETHOPHILORVM AB ERN.CHRISTOPHORO SR.I.COM. DE MANTEVFFEL INSTITVTA BEROL MDCCXXXVI. within gilt dot and double-line circular medallions, the saucer painted in the manner of Johann Georg Heintze with figures at discussion before a palace in a wooded landscape within a circular gilt cartouche with radiating half-flowerheads and a gilt stylised anthemion and strapwork border, gilt line rims, blue crossed swords marks, Pressnummer 24 to coffee-cup and 2 to saucer, circa 1740
