An identical torchère, with label inscribed Du Magasin Pal ..., Antiquities, Rue Rondinelli, Florence, was sold Bonhams, London, 19 March 1992, lot 61

The tamed lion-mask, reeded bowl and claw feet of these torchères in the 'Antique' manner relate to a 1795 Florentine design for a 'Candeliere d'Argento' (cf. Magazzino Di Mobilia O Sieno Modelli Di Mobili di Ogni Genere Num. 1 Ottobre 1795 Firenze, Marie Cristina Tonelli, Ed. Florence, 1981, pl. IV, no. 10)
