Lot Essay
This is the watercolour for the painting of the same title, now in two parts, as Roberts believed it to be too large to be saleable, which currently hang in the William Roberts display at the Tate Gallery, London as 'The Playground' and 'Skipping'. Roberts had heard that Cunard were to commission artists to produce large panels for one of their liners (probably the Queen Mary)
