Lot Essay

An almost identical table with the same distinctive angle mounts and marquetry, stamped by C. Topino (maître in 1773), from the H. J. Joel Collection, was sold in these Rooms, 17 April 1980, lot 116. It belonged previously to the Countess of Northbrook and to Mrs Arthur Tritton of Godmersham Park, Kent. Another almost identical by Topino, sold from the Collection of Madame de Polès in 1936, is illustrated J. Nicolay, L'Art et La Manière des Maîtres Ebénistes Français, Paris, 1956, p.461, fig. L
