Lot Essay

A pair of identical pot-pourri vases but with French late 18th Century mounts in the Royal Collection were recently included in the Carlton House exhibition (Exhibition Catalogue, Carlton House, The Past Glories of George IV's Palace, Queen's Gallery, Buckingham Palace, 1991-92, p.106, fig.60). These may have been the 2 Cocqs Pots Pourrys incorrectly described as Porcelaine du Japon bought in Paris in May 1820 by Benois for 350 francs. These were sent three months later from Buckingham Palace to the Brighton Pavilion
