Lot Essay

The shape of this bureau is related to a number by BVRB (died circa 1767). Almost identical angle mounts appear on a similar bureau by BVRB formerly in the Halton Collection and the collection of Lionel de Rothschild, offered in these Rooms, 1 July 1976, lot 109, and on a bureau illustrated J. Nicolay, L'Art et la Manière des Maîtres Ebénistes Français au XVIIIe Siècle, Paris, 1956, p.86, fig. H. Similar angle mounts also appear on a bureau by BVRB sold Chrisite's New York, 9 May 1985, lot 118 and on another from the Collection of Sidney J Lamon, sold in these Rooms, 29 November 1973, lot 99
