Lot Essay

Euryanthe was composed in 1822-3 to a libretto by Helmina von Chezy and received its first performance at Kärtnertor in Vienna on 25 October 1823.

Caroline Brandt married Weber on 4 November 1817 in Prague. They had first met when Caroline came to sing at the Opera, also in Prague, in December 1813. It took Weber several years to overcome her reluctance and accept his proposal.
