A letter written two years before Giuseppina's death and summing up Verdi's attitude to ill health in old age which he accepts with courage and fortitude. Mascheroni (1857-1841) was one of the leading conductors in Italy and had produced and directed Falstaff in 1893 at La Scala.

Apparently unpublished.
