2° (325 x 320 mm.). PRINTED ON VELLUM. Collation: 1-102 (1/1r engraved title, 1/1v blank, 1/2r letterpress title, 1/2v preliminary text, 2/1r-10/2v text, commentary, illustration). 20 leaves. Vocalised square type 172 mm. (text), cursive type 76 mm. (commentary), waybertaytsh type (instructions and the Yiddish translation of the concluding songs Echad mi yodea and Chad gadya), 31 lines (full page of text), 69 lines (full page of commentary). Engraved title with pictorial border including a scene of Abraham's sacrifice, woodcut architectual border around typographical title, 14 page-width engravings after the 1695 Amsterdam Haggadah illustrations of Abraham ben Jacob, 7 woodcut historiated initials, one woodcut tail-piece. (Some staining.) Contemporary green straight-grained roan gilt, panelled sides with roll-tooled borders and small floral and fan tools, (binding rubbed). Provenance: contemporary Hebrew inscription (scored through).

ONLY SIX OTHER COPIES OF THE VELLUM ISSUE ARE RECORDED (JNUL, JTSL, BL, Bodley, DSB, Frankfurt SB). Abraham ben Jacob's illustrations, which determined Haggadah iconography for more than a century, were themselves inspired by Matthaeus Merian's Bible illustrations of 1625-30.
