Lot Essay

The technique and rapid penwork of drawings attributed to Marcola by the Reliable Venetian Collector recall the present study, A. Bettagno, Disegni di una collezione Veneziana del Settecento, Venice, 1966, nos. 128-32, illustrated. Two drawings in the Metropolitan Museum and Winnipeg Art Gallery traditionally attributed to Giovanni Battista have recently been given to his son Marco on the basis of 18th Century inscriptions, J. Bean and W. Griswold, 18th Century Italian Drawings in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, 1990, no. 132, illustrated and G. Knox, 18th Century Venetian Art in Canadian Collections, Vancouver, 1989, no. 63, illustrated
