Lot Essay

As Margaret Morgan Grasselli kindly points out the figure appears, with a change in the position of the left arm, to the left of the dancing couple, in Watteau's L'Accordée de Village in the Soane Museum. On the basis of a photograph Morgan Grasselli suggests a date of 1712-13
