Lot Essay

Although no positive connection has yet been found, it is assumed that Susanne de Court was a relation of the illustrious family of Limoges enamellers also represented by Jean Court (dit Vigier) and Jean de Court I. Her known works are signed Susanne Court (or de Court, de Cour, Decourt), or simply S.C., and are characterized by their delicate draughtsmanship, and the predominantly blue/green palette evident in the present pair of plates.
Another pair of plates from the same series were sold in these rooms 12 May 1970, lot 30
