Lot Essay

Lawrence Gahagan (fl. 1756-1820) was an Irish sculptor who moved to London in order to make a name for himself there. In his later career he was to become known for his numerous small portrait busts and statuettes of famous personalities, among them Tsar Alexander I, Romilly, Nelson and Wellington.
