Dr. Sam Segal, loc. cit., identifies this as an early work by the artist, pointing out that the pansy and the lily-of-the-valley repeat those in a flower piece by Ambrosius Bosschaert the Elder dated 1621 (ibid., p.67, fig.17); the cranesbill also follows the same pattern but in reverse
