Lot Essay

The leaf-shaped and palmette-fronted arms are a popular motif in the work of George Bullock. The finial at the top of the pedimented back is equally a simplification of one often seen in his work. Both are present on a pair of sofas attributed to Bullock and in the collection of the Duke of Palmella (1781-1850), sold in these Rooms, 25 June 1987, lot 174.
