AN ENGLISH HANGER with curved single-edged blade (pitted) double-edged towards the point, iron hilt with double shaped shells, the large outer one bent slightly downwards, short downcurved rear quillon with swelling flattened terminal, slender knuckle-guard with central swelling, heart-shaped pommel-cap with prominent button and vandycked lower edge, lower grip ferrule en suite, encrusted throughout in silver with a trellis and dot pattern, and wooden grip (wormed, binding missing, heavily patinated throughout), circa 1640
