A MEDIEVAL SWORD, in excavated condition but undamaged, with double-edged sharply tapering blade of flattened hexagonal section changing to flattened diamond and inlaid in latten on each face with a running wolf(?) mark, long straight quillons of square section, and thick oval pommel with chamfered edges, the surface covered throughout with a hard black patina under accretions of river-mud, late 14th Century
