A TRANSITIONAL SMALL-SWORD with single-edged blade of triangular section with chamfered back, lightly etched at the forte with foliated scrollwork and Latin inscriptions, iron hilt comprising double-lobed shell chiselled on the underside with two panels of simulated basketwork framing grotesque masks, short quillons, the rear one bifurcated, swelling at the tips, slender knuckle-guard with central double swelling, plummet-shaped pommel chiselled with foliage, and writhen wooden grip (binding mostly missing), circa 1640; and a small-sword for a boy, with associated slender blade of hollow traingular section etched on both sides at the forte with panels involving strapwork, the inscription 'De La Marque Au Raisin Faite à Soligen', and the mark of a bunch of grapes, iron hilt encrusted in silver (rubbed) with sprays of flowers, and later wooden grip, late 17th Century, probably English
