A SWISS OR GERMAN SABRE with curved single-edged blade (some pitting) back-edged towards the point and with narrow central fuller along the back on each face, the forte etched on each face with a sword-holding hand emerging from a cloud, birds and Latin mottoes (all rubbed), iron hilt with half-basket of slender bars, comprising heart-shaped side-ring framing a pierced convex plate, outer guard corresponding to the knuckle-guard, each with a double-central swelling and linked by a diagonal, downcurved rear quillon swelling at the tip, thumb-ring incorporating a small shell, compressed pommel, and wooden grip with remains of wire binding, circa 1640
